Tori Amos has no plans to slow down

Tori Amos is keen to ensure her daughter lives a normal life.

Unconventional may be one of the first words that come to mind about Tori Amos.

But when it comes to her 13-year-old daughter Tash, the US singer is determined to ensure the most down-to-earth of groundings.

“The most important thing you can teach a kid is responsibility for looking after themselves,” insists Tori, who has a home in Cornwall with husband Mark. I’ve met so many kids who had no idea what things cost.

“I was working when I was 13 and Mark’s folks were publicans so he was doing stuff around the pub when he was really young.

“So we appreciate earning. Tash is at boarding school in London and she has an allowance for her phone and other things.

“She’ll come on tour with me in the States in the summer and she’ll sell T-shirts and get paid for that. She wants to work and she has a good attitude.”

While Tori was an early starter, her musical travels has meant that Tash has already been round the world six times.

Tori’s 14th studio album Unrepentant Geraldines is out next month and, as she’s taking to the road to promote it, she has no plans to stop that travelling.

“I still love music as much as I ever did,” reveals Tori, now 50.

“I’ve been doing this for 20 years and if I go for another 20 I’ll be 70 which I’m planning on doing by the way. Tash says I can be Granny Rock in my high heels!”

Tori is at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on Saturday May 10 and the album is out on May 12.
