The appointment of 45 new peers including lingerie tycoon Michelle Mone, Sir Menzies Campbell, Sir Malcolm Bruce and Alistair Darling has provoked debate online over the merits of the unelected chamber.

Friends’ Lisa Kudrow joined pop megastar Taylor Swift on stage in Los Angeles last night.
The pair sang the song Kudrow’s character Phoebe Buffay made famous in the sitcom and it went down a storm online.
