The Broons Awards: Still time to cast your votes for people who make a difference

THERE IS only one week to go until the closing date for The Broons Awards 2016.

So if you’ve thought about nominating someone deserving over the past few weeks and never quite got round to it come on, time is running out!

The Broons are 80 next year. The Broons Awards are our way of celebrating Scotland’s best-loved, most iconic family.

We all share the values of The Broons care, compassion, laughs through life’s up and downs and a sense of community.

But there are people in every family and community who simply give that little bit extra, time and time again.

And they are the ones YOU need to tell us about.

We want you to help give these family and community heroes the recognition they deserve. Our Community Families Category, supported by RBS, will celebrate those dedicated and committed volunteers who work tirelessly to support others, meeting a need or providing a service in their local areas.

Some families go through such tough times that it make the rest of us wonder how they cope. In our Inspirational Families Award, supported by Semichem, we will honour the strength, resilience, bravery or fundraising efforts of those who have gone the extra mile to support each other through life’s toughest challenges.

Do you have a family member who is a huge support to everyone? The Family Heroes Award, supported by Scotmid, will recognise a selfless individual who has made a significant difference to those around them through perseverance, hard work or a battle against the odds.

Our communities are made stronger by those selfless people who give up their time to help run football teams, athletics clubs and other sporty organisations. Sporting Families, supported by Stirfresh, will be presented to a group or individual who inspires, motivates, or creates opportunities through sport.

The elderly are invaluable members of society. Our Inspiring Seniors Award will commend an individual or couple who stands out by living life to the full or going the extra mile to support other people.

Children are among the most vulnerable in our communities and those who give their all to support them deserve our thanks and recognition. The Foster Families Award will recognise the special achievements of foster carers who have given children and young people secure homes to change their lives or develop their potential.

Carers are the unsung heroes of Scotland. We want your help to change that! The Carer of the Year category will celebrate a dedicated individual who gives their time and demonstrates outstanding care and compassion.

We all want our kids to have a carefree childhood but sometimes life can throw up unavoidable challenges for youngsters. Children of Courage will highlight a truly special child whose bravery, self-sacrifice or positivity has made a difference to the lives of others.

Our pets are much-loved and often at the heart of a family.
