Memphis Depay wants his feet to do the talking not his tattoo

Memphis Depay has “Dreamchaser” tattooed across his chest.

Sure enough, his first words at his Manchester United unveiling on Friday were: “It’s a dream come true.”

He also has the word “successful” tattooed on the inside of his lower lip but the ultra-confident young Dutchman has the sense not to presume his £25m move to Old Trafford will automatically turn out that way.

“I had a good season at PSV last season but now I must do it again,” he says. “I’m very happy to be here but I must prove myself in the Premier League.

“I think I can score goals and get assists. I will be creative. I think that is what the crowd like.

“I don’t want to talk too much. I want to let my feet speak. I want to show it on the pitch. I am still young and not had many years in the game. I only played two seasons for PSV.

“I don’t think it will be easy. I trained three times this week and already I feel it’s different to training in the Dutch league.

“I have to improve so I will work hard and show the boss I can handle it.”

n DANNY INGS cut short his summer break because he was so determined to hit the ground running with Liverpool.

The former Burnley striker only returned from England Under-21 duty in the Czech Republic on June 26 but was back in training 12 days later ahead of the club’s pre-season tour to Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.

In a week in which Raheem Sterling missed two days’ training citing illness, Ings refused to take his full holiday entitlement.

“I was given the option to obviously have a bit of extra time off because of the Under-21 tournament,” he says.

“But I thought it was really important that I got in, met all the lads and the staff and settled in.

“If you meet them after the tour, you haven’t got that period when you are gelling with everyone.

“I don’t think I have ever been as excited in my career. It has been a tough journey to get to this stage, coming from the Conference South in four years.”

Liverpool still haven’t settled a compensation fee with Burnley, having had their offer of just under £6m rejected by the Clarets, who want nearer £10m.
