Photo of ‘two-headed stag’ released as creature is spotted near Blair Castle

YOU wont believe your eyes when you see this photograph of what appears to be a stag with two heads on Atholl Estates.

An incredible sight was witnessed in Highland Perthshire yesterday as a ‘two-headed’ stag was caught on camera on Atholl Estates near Blair Castle in Scotland.

But sadly, on closer inspection, the photo was actually an optical illusion that caught the stags at the perfect moment. Nevertheless, the picture, which was taken by gamekeeper Sandy Reid, is very convincing!

The red deer is the largest native land mammal in Britain and they spend most of the summer months in Scotland’s hills and remote glens. However they can be spotted on lower ground during winter as food is more readily available.

Blair Atholl (Getty Images) Autumn is the perfect time to spot a stag as these mighty beasts are at the height of their breeding season, or rut.

For a chance to see the magical sights yourself, Blair Castle is open this weekend, before it closes for the winter season.

There are Land Rover safaris on offer, where you can spot the far more common one-headed stag out in the breathtaking surrounding area of the castle. Driven by an expert guide, you can also see wildlife such as red squirrels, birds of prey and mountain hares.
