Parents’ turmoil as search continues for missing Scot Chris Nelson

A TRAWL of CCTV footage to help find missing Scot Chris Nelson has failed to turn up a lead.

The 24-year-old has not been seen since he disappeared in Amsterdam two weeks ago while visiting the Dutch city with his girlfriend. (Sunday 15th November)

Forensic experts are now attempting to trace any activity on his mobile phone to help in the search, while his parent have also returned to the Netherlands to oversee the operation.

His dad Scott said: “You can’t imagine what were are going through.

“The first thing we asked the police was had they made any progress, and there’s been nothing.

“It’s like he’s vanished.

“CCTV in the area where he was staying has been checked and they couldn’t see anything.

“The actual street hasn’t been checked, so perhaps that will turn something up.

“What I would say is, Donna and I have been reassured the police are taking it seriously. That is at least some encouragement.”

Chris, from Dalkeith in Midlothian vanished after he left the house of a friend in the city in the early hours of Sunday 15th November.

He had been visiting the city with his fiance Stefanie Kollross with whom he lived in Germany.

They had been staying in the Recht Boomssloot area of Amsterdam and had returned home at 3am after a night out with friends.

After ordering pizza and chatting for a while, Chris left the flat for a walk at 5.45am and has not been seen since.

He was wearing a black hooded top, dark jeans and black Nike trainers.

It’s emerged a potential sighting of Chris looking distressed not long after he disappeared has been ruled out by the police.

They have also checked CCTV footage at both the local bus and train stations.

Scott added: “In some ways it’s good to know that it wasn’t him but, it also rules out a potential lead.

“We’ve met the mayor and she has been very encouraging and sanctioned a lot of flyer to be printed off, something that rarely happens.

“So we are very grateful for that.

German police also confirmed they are working closely with their Dutch colleagues and have widened the search area.

“We are searching over all of Germany and are in contact with police in the Netherlands,” said a police spokesman from the Rhein-Kreis Neuss area where Chris had been living.

“At this point we have no indication that this is a criminal case, however,” they added.

His mum Donna said: “We just want Chris back. I know he had been a bit lonely, but nothing serious.

“He was planning on moving back to Scotland and was going to make a surprise visit just before Christmas.

“It’s so difficult to understand what’s happening.”
