Scots schoolboy set for goth rock stardom in Germany

Kieran Robertson, 16, is being flown to Berlin this week after being spotted by some of the country’s top music execs.

He’ll spend a whirlwind five days recording a single and shooting a video.

Kieran, who goes to Hyndland Secondary in Glasgow, will also be on a promotional blitz of radio stations and other media outlets.

The youngster will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Scots songstress Amy Macdonald, who is a massive star in Germany. However, Scotstoun lad Kieran’s musical tastes are a lot rockier.

“This really is a dream come true for Kieran,” said dad Gordon, 50, who’s heading out with his son on Friday. He’s been playing since I taught him guitar when he was a kid and but this is a massive opportunity.”

Kieran had an earlier taste of success with The Wee Band and Front Line.

But it was while playing with band Darker Than Black as support for German outfit Vlad In Tears that he was spotted by the continental music bosses who signed him up.

“We were a bit sceptical at first but they have big plans for Kieran,” said Gordon, who is giving his son his full backing alongside wife Helen and other son Kyle, 10.

Although he’s applied to university, Kieran is hoping rock-mad Germany will be his big break.

“All this has come so fast,” said Kieran. “The goth-glam scene is much bigger across in Germany than it is here and the management company really like what I do.

“With a bit of luck this will lead on to even more interest.”
