Nicola Sturgeon is being lined up to appear on a top TV chat show as part of a major charm offensive during a visit to the United States in June.
The Sunday Post understands the First Minister is being lined up for an appearance on the long running and popular satire programme The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Previous guests on the programme include President Obama, as well as former British Prime Minister’s Gordon Brown and Tony Blair.
Guests are often taken to task on policy or mercilessly teased by host Stewart, who has fronted the programme for 16 years and is leaving the post in August.
The appearance will be a major coup for Miss Sturgeon who has seen her public profile soar since becoming First Minister last year and guiding the SNP to becoming the third biggest political party in the UK.
Miss Sturgeon will visit New York and Washington DC late next month with meetings at the World Bank, IMF and Council on Foreign Relations all planned.
A Scottish Government spokesman said: “The programme for the First Minister’s visit is still being finalised but is expected to include a number of media opportunities to help promote Scotland.”
