"This dessert is created for two people to eat from the same plate with two spoons which is quite romantic. It’s simple to make and suitable for even an inexperienced
cook."
3 green eating apples, peeled and cored
100 g (4 oz) butter
100 g (4 oz) sugar
200 g (7 oz) puff pastry
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
Preheat oven to 190C, 375F or gas mark 5.
Cut apples into four. Pack a small (approx 15 cm/6 inch) cast iron ovenproof frying pan with butter and sugar and
place apples on top. Cook over a medium heat until a golden brown caramel
colour appears.
Roll out pastry and cut to a circle 2 cm/1 inch larger than the pan. Tuck pastry over apples and place pan in a hot oven for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
Invert a serving plate over the pan and turn out the tarte tatin and top with ice cream.
