They’re going to do it all!
Everybody in the company from the managing directors down has been drafted in to help.
Julie Hunter, business manager and organiser of the company’s CHAS fund-raising committee, explained how the financial advisors and insurance brokers are supporting the cause.
“We’re on target.
£4500 has been raised already, which is a tremendous amount considering the short time. It’s going to be a stretch, but I’m confident we’ll hit the mark.
Realistic
“The managing partners of One Integrated Solution have previously donated to the Children’s Hospice Appeal informally over the past few years and they thought it would be worthwhile to make the fund-raising official.
“We formed a charitable trust at the beginning of the year and it was agreed £20,000 was a realistic and achievable target.
“There are around 70 staff here of all ages and everyone is getting involved. We’ve had so many different ideas and events planned for the rest of the year.
“We hope to hold a ceilidh at the Riverside Club in Glasgow and the money taken at the door will go into the fund. Twelve staff are taking part in a sponsored 10k run planned for May in Helensburgh and we’d like to do a quiz night too.
“In September we’re getting as many staff as possible to walk the West Highland Way.
“We have a curry night coming up in a couple of weeks and hope to organise a barbecue for June or July.
Legs waxed
“One of our mortgage advisers, Gavin Wilson, was even sponsored to have his legs waxed recently.”
Gavin joked, “I’m definitely a lot more streamlined in the gym since that!”
Other staff members will have to be even braver than Gavin, however. The firm is planning a parachute jump in August. Julie added, “Surprisingly, we’ve had a lot of volunteers for that task. We’ve not even had to threaten them!
“It was very important we went for a charity like CHAS. Two of our staff were recently invited out to Rachel House to see the work carried out there.”
Administrator Margaret McMahon, who was on the Rachel House tour, explained, “Carol Smith and I are part of the CHAS committee and we were invited to see what goes on at the hospice.
Wonderful
“Unfortunately there were no children there as it was a staff training day, but that was a great experience in itself as they were wonderful. They work so hard and all do a great job.
“There were pictures of children on the walls which I thought were extremely poignant.”
“Robin House is so important. We need a hospice here on the west coast as there are many families who have to travel through to Kinross, which is quite a distance. If Robin House is anything like Rachel House then it will be a beautiful place.”
