Charli’s hoping for
a big loss
Despite some little slip-ups Charli says, “I’m starting to notice the difference already. I feel more energetic.
“Nothing is forbidden on my diet. I am sensible, but it’s nice to have the choice.
“I started the diet with Scottish Slimmers last November and lost 7 lb before Christmas.
“Then I put most of it back on over the holidays. But I was determined to succeed, so I started afresh in January.
“The diet suits me and I’m getting on really well. My target is to lose six stone by December 13.
“I haven’t told anyone what I weigh or my target weight, all will be revealed when it’s over. I’m too embarrassed.”
Charli has lived in Scotland for eight years. She met her husband, Mark, while she was working in Hong Kong and he was serving with the Army. Now he works for Fife Council.
Charli admits, “I have never been a stick, but the weight piled on five years ago when I was pregnant.
“It is healthy to lose 2 lb a week, so I should be losing 6-8 lb every month. So far I’m on target. My brother’s getting married in Paris next year, and I have every intention of being thin for that!”
Charli seems like the most positive person you are likely to meet, but for four years she battled depression.
Depression
She explains, “I suffered really badly from post natal depression after my son Haydn was born. It was like I was outside myself looking in at a different person.
“It was an awful thing to go through, but I learned a lot about myself.
“And now I’m back!
“I feel stronger and more positive now. When I began feeling better, the first step was passing a First Aid course and then I decided to tackle — me!
“Being a mum changed my life. Heaven forbid anything should happen to my son. I had read so much about CHAS in The Sunday Post and after making some enquiries decided to be sponsored to lose weight for them.
“I phoned Rachel House and they were really supportive. Haydn’s nursery, St Ninian’s, has been fantastic. They’ve raised £100 for CHAS already, with a raffle and tombola of their own before the Christmas holidays. But now they’re compiling a poster with photos of me for every stone I lose. I’ve joined a gym and am asking everyone there to sponsor me. So far I’ve raised £160.
“I don’t know how much I’ll raise, although anything less than £500 will be a disappointment.”
One person keeping a close eye on Mum is four-year-old Haydn.
“When we’re out he tells me what I can’t eat,” says Charli. “He keeps a strict eye on me, always asking if I’m allowed to eat this and that. He’s my little watchdog!
Supportive
“Mark is being supportive, but I plan on getting him involved too,” Charli pledges.
All this is just the beginning for Charli. “It’s the first phase of attack. Once I lose the weight I want to try abseiling and skydiving, and raise even more money!”
