Help us to help them

Can you help
speed Birgit along?

ON APRIL 17, Birgit Thaysen (35), from Edinburgh, will be putting her best foot forward and running in the London Marathon in aid of our CHAS appeal.
Birgit, who is originally from Denmark, has taken part in the London Marathon twice before and this time decided she wanted a Scottish charity to benefit from her hard work and months of training.
She said, “I knew I wanted to run for a charity, particularly one that helped children. But I was undecided which to choose until a friend told me about what CHAS does and my mind was made up instantly. Rachel House does fantastic work and soon Robin House will be doing the same.”
Birgit, who works helping former homeless people get a fresh start in life, has been training hard to get fit for the big day.

Birgit makes sure her laces are ready to go.

She exercises six days a week and runs up to 50 miles a week.
She said, “I’ve been training nearly every day and must thank the staff at my gym — One Spa at the Sheraton Hotel — who helped me get fit as well as sponsoring me. Next week I’ll be upping my training even more and running 60 miles a week.”
She is hoping to run the 26 miles and 385 yards in around 3 hours 20 minutes. She said, “Fingers crossed, I’ll manage it in my personal target time.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor Birgit can send a donation to her at: Birgit Thaysen, c/o 11 Gilmour’s Close, Grassmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2HJ or call us on 0141 332 9933.
