Robots hope to raise
lots of cash

By Craig Robertson

A STAR-STUDDED line-up including Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry and Robin Williams hopes to make our campaign into a money-making machine next month.
The stellar cast provide the voices for the new animated movie Robots, which receives its Scottish premiere at Edinburgh’s Vue cinema on Sunday, March 6 — and every penny raised from the event will go to CHAS.
The film is set in a world populated entirely by robots and tells the story of a young genius named Rodney (voiced by Ewan) who wants to build robots capable of making the world a better place.

Ewan McGregor.

But he finds his dream challenged by corporate tyrant and master inventor Big Weld (Mel Brooks) while also being seduced by a sexy corporate robot called Cappy (Halle Berry).
The tie-up between Robots and CHAS came about through the film’s makers 20th Century Fox and its star voice.
Colin Rowling, regional executive for 20th Century Fox is based in Dunfermline, not far from Rachel House at Kinross and knows just how important the facility is to Scotland.
Extraordinary
He said, “I made a visit to Rachel House two years ago and it affects me to this day. It’s an extraordinary place and broke my heart, to be honest.
“They do such tremendous work there and I know how well they’ll use the money raised.
“It’s also, as everyone knows, something close to Ewan’s heart.”
The main man may not be there on the day — he’s filming in Australia — but his mum says she’s still hopeful he’ll make an appearance. A long list of celebrities is lined up, although no names have been confirmed yet.
Craig Simmons, general manager of the Vue, is organising the big day — and has made a major personal sacrifice for the cause.
“We’ll open the doors at 4 pm and hope everyone’s seated by 4.30. We’ll have a charity auction and I’ve ‘reluctantly’ agreed to put my prized Star Wars: Episode 3 poster up for auction.
“It’s signed by 10 of the original cast members so hopefully it’ll fetch a good price.
“We’re hoping the studio will supply memorabilia signed by the likes of Halle Berry, Robin Williams and Mel Brooks as well as Ewan.
“There should be plenty of other non-film things up for grabs too. Everyone who attends the movie will get a goodie bag as well.”
There will be 300 seats available to the public, costing £5 for children, £10 for adults. Family tickets for two adults and two children will be £25.
Every penny from the admission fees and the auction will go to CHAS.
Anyone wishing a ticket for the premiere of Robots should
