Susie’s early cracker
in Edinburgh

By Kirsten Gray

SHE’S APPEARED in the touring production of blockbuster musical Les Miserables and in Oklahoma alongside Maureen Lipman in the West End.
But now Susie Dumbreck, from Kirkcaldy, is running her own production company in Edinburgh. And she’s put together a show she hopes will raise plenty for our appeal.
Working with local amateurs under the name The Melodramatics, Susie reckons their light-hearted Musical Mayhem (and the odd Christmas cracker) is set to be a huge hit with the audience.
As they sing and clap their way out of the theatre after the final curtain, Susie hopes they’ll be in such a generous mood that they throw lots of money into the charity buckets.

Susie hopes her audience will be in a
generous mood.

“I wanted a chance to work with local amateurs to help charities close to their hearts and, as it was approaching to Christmas, thought a good musical comedy might encourage the audience to enjoy themselves and fill the collection buckets,” says Susie.
“We have a fantastic cast of local performers, drawn from well-known Edinburgh amateur musical companies, who have given up their time and committed a great deal of energy to bring an evening of songs, laughter and a few mad Christmas ‘crackers’.”
The show, at the St Brides Centre in Edinburgh’s Dalry area this Wednesday and Thursday, features well-known favourites from composers including Rodgers & Hammerstein and Tom Lehrer.
But there are also slightly more obscure numbers included, such as the festive dilemmas as How To Get A Date For The Christmas Party!, Discovering A Successful Hangover Cure and Avoiding Over-indulgence In The Turkey Stakes
Tickets are £10 and can be bought from the St Brides Centre on 0131 346 1405.
