Having a ball
ON SATURDAY, the deaf community and guests will be having a ball.
Edinburgh International Conference Centre is the venue for the first Deaf Charity Ball organised by six childhood friends who were so touched by the efforts of CHAS that they had to do something to help.
Gerry and Kay Hughes, Andrew and Caroline Thomson, and Rod and Audrey Dawson, who were all born deaf, decided, as disabled people themselves, they would form a committee and organise an event on behalf of the deaf community across the UK.
Gerry says, “We felt CHAS should be our priority as the parents and children need support. We are helping by contacting the deaf community to raise awareness of CHAS. We wanted to raise £5000, but with auctions, raffles and donations we may raise even more.”
Many guests will travel from across Britain to attend the evening, which promises to be a glittering event with champagne, fine wine and delicious food crowned off with an exciting night of ceilidh dancing. A piper will welcome the guests.
The committee has worked tirelessly to make next Saturday’s event a success, right down to producing a video with sign language to teach guests about CHAS.
We wish them a fantastic evening. If you’d like to learn more about the ball or make a contribution go to
