Help us to help them

The power and
the glory . . .

By Sarah Johnson

MORE THAN 5000 people made Portpatrick Truckpull another roaring success for our appeal.
Police even had to turn away some visitors because there simply wasn’t enough space!
On the Easter weekend, Scotland’s strongmen were back in Portpatrick to give father and son team Ian and Iain Ritchie a helping hand as they continued to show their support for CHAS.
Even the sun made an appearance!
There were eight male teams aiming to pull a 17.5-tonne lorry the furthest, with the boys from the rugby club the strongest on the day. The girls beat the boys in the Mini Truckpull. The Dashers Devils pulled a four-tonne lorry, much to the surprise of the under-12 boys from the Youth Club.
The Super Gran Battle saw two teams, the Local Grannies versus Centreline Grannies, push and pull a nine-tonne lorry, with the Centreline Grannies victorious.
Rosie Ritchie, Iain’s mum, was a valuable member of the Local Grannies team, raising £600 for charity.
With £3000 collected already, and much more to come in, Iain believes the overall amount raised on the day will be close to £6000.
He said, “Everyone had a great time.”
