They’re
chess brilliant!
They were one of the main acts at the sell-out
Spirit Of Youth show in aid of CHAS at the Glasgow Concert Hall two years ago. And last year they put on a fantastic performance of West Side Story at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, where they raised more than
£3000 for our campaign.
Guided tour
The school’s musical director, Graham Dickie, said, “The Dance School and Knightswood Secondary, who we’re affiliated to, adopted CHAS as our charity a number of years ago.
“I know Bob Tomlinson, who does PR work for CHAS, and a while ago he took some of the students and I on a guided tour of Rachel House.
“As an old softie, I expected it to be really depressing, but I came away thinking ‘what an incredible place’.
“We didn’t need any persuasion to support CHAS after that.”
Described by the late Donald Dewar as “a shining jewel in the crown of Scottish education”, The Dance School of Scotland has a great reputation for the standard of training and success achieved by its pupils.
They come from all over Scotland and are selected after rigorous auditions for the only fully-funded vocational school of performing arts in Scotland.
Mr Dickie added, “I think the theatre in Stirling holds around 500 and it would be great if we could fill it.
“These shows will be directed by Jacquie Crago, Head of Voice at Oxford School of Drama, designed by James Paterson from
Cats and Phantom Of The Opera, and will be accompanied by a full professional orchestra and rock band.
Last concert
“For many of the students, this will be their last concert before graduating so it’s going to be a huge event. It might be a while before they get the opportunity to work with such a great team again.”
