They’re a couple of gems

THOMAS AND Isabella Fergie didn’t need any sparklers to brighten up their diamond wedding anniversary — because the couple are already a pair of gems.
Rather than receive gifts to celebrate their 60 years together, Thomas and Isabella, from Tranent, asked friends and relatives to donate cash to our CHAS appeal.
Even so, they were stunned when their appeal raised almost £700.
Isabella (79) has always been an active collector for various charities and this year had the diamond idea of asking all their loved ones to make a contribution to a good cause close to their hearts.
“It’s the most Isabella’s ever raised and we got quite a few £50 notes,” beamed Thomas, who is 84.
As well as drumming up cash for our campaign, the couple had a party with 80 guests at Rannoch House Social Club in Tranent.
Both natives of East Lothian, they first met during the war years when Thomas was in the Home Guard.
They immediately clicked but it wasn’t until 18 months later that he popped the question and Isabella became a teenage war bride.
Sixty years on, their marriage is still going strong, and we wish them many more happy anniversaries in the future.
