Help us to help them

Colin’s praise for readers

By Kirsten Gray

All the extra activity involved in the building of Robin House means the south-east Scotland CHAS fund-raising team has outgrown its Edinburgh premises.
They’ve just opened a bigger office in the city’s Craiglockhart area so they’ll be able to keep up the good work.
There to help fund-raising manager for the south-east, Pippa Robeson, cut the ribbon were Rachel House regular Patricia Coleman and Taggart star Colin McCredie.

Colin, who plays DC Stuart Fraser, first became involved with CHAS three years ago when he and wife Simone, a primary school teacher, visited Rachel House in Kinross.
“You hear the word hospice and think it’s a place children go to die, it must be very sad or morbid,” said Colin. “But it’s not, I came out amazed at what a happy place it is.”

Since then he’s helped out where he can, attending events and supporting the youngsters who attend Rachel House.
He’d met Patricia before — at the glamorous premiere of the latest Star Wars film in Edinburgh!
“Ewan McGregor, who stars in the film, does a lot to help CHAS,” he said. “I was at school with him and have worked with him over the years. I met Patricia at the premiere. It’s great to see her enjoying herself again today.”
Colin thanked Sunday Post readers for their help raising funds for the new hospice.
“It’s great. The pounds raised each week all add up,” he beamed.
Patricia (21), from Edinburgh, has attended Rachel House since it opened in 1996.
“It gives me freedom to do things I can’t do at home like going shopping, to the cinema and for days out to places like Deep Sea World,” she revealed.
“The atmosphere is brilliant and helps make me feel secure and gives me quiet time for myself away from my family.”
