Help us to help them

Pupils went all around the world to help CHAS

A MUSICAL by school pupils has brought Robin House one step closer — thanks to All That CHAS!
Pupils at Belmont House School in Newton Mearns staged the show — From Broadway to Belmont — and, along with other charity events, it raised a fantastic show-stopping £5000 for our hospice appeal.
The musical trip around the world featured numbers from several famous shows.

Fourth year pupil Kirsty Kilmurry (15), explained, “The show was set in different parts of the world. For example, we had a song from Les Miserables for Paris, songs from Chicago for America and My Fair Lady for London.
“I sang in the show and we had around 70 pupils involved, aged from nine to 17.
“There was the cast, the orchestra and the crew. It was a great success and we raised £1333 on the night. You could buy a programme to gain entry, which was between £2 and £5. It turned out a great success.”
Head of Music, Pat Ellen, who has been with Belmont House for 15 years, came up with the idea.
She said, “I had a younger brother who was severely handicapped, so I know what it’s like to look after a disabled child. This is why Robin House is so important.
“A musical was the obvious thing to do. I thought it would be fun while also raising money.”
Belmont House junior school also held various events, including a bring- and-buy sale, a mini-marathon around the block and a “fun in the sun” day, when pupils dressed in summer gear instead of school uniform.
They raised a magnificent £3135 from their efforts.
A former teacher, Mrs Inkster, pitched in too, raising a staggering £532 from selling tablet.
Celia MacLean from CHAS was at Belmont School, where she was presented with the cheque for £5000 by Christopher Gilmore (17) and Duncan Baddon (15), along with Kirsty.
She congratulated the pupils saying, “It was a great effort from everyone in the school, from the juniors right up to sixth year. The best thing of all was that the kids seemed to have fun doing everything.
“Well done!”
