A little problem
at the bank
WHEN ANGELA COLLIE tried to bank a donation destined for CHAS, the teller thought she was winding her up. No wonder.
The teacher, from Dyce Academy in Aberdeen, had just pitched up with
£317 — all in one penny pieces!
Thanks to a “Copper Dropper” scheme, the school’s charities campaign managed to rake in a total of £750, all in loose change.
But pupils wanted to do something creative with the cash, and that led to S1 pupil Rebecca MacAskill winning a competition to design a coin picture.
And 31,700 carefully assembled pennies later, Rebecca’s CHAS rocking horse logo, along with a rider and added balloons, came to life — leaving Angela with a bit of explaining to do down at the bank.
