By Kathryn Mainds DUNKELD CATHEDRAL is a spectacular building — and this week it’s about to look even more impressive, thanks to a group of dedicated women who have organised a flower festival, writes Kathryn Mainds. The festival opens on Thursday and is themed Famous Scots. Displays have been inspired by Scottish icons from Oor Wullie to Alexander Fleming, Billy Connolly to the Queen Mother.
Festival organisers Sonja Arbuthnott, Joan Cameron, Sheila Mannion and Margaret Cameron prepare for the big day.
It runs until May 22, with around half of the donations, which are being taken at the door, going to our CHAS campaign. Everyone is welcome. On Thursday, from 12 noon, the Rhode Island Choir will entertain for an hour and on Saturday, Dunkeld Strathspey and Reel Society will play in the afternoon. There will also be handbell ringing, and piano or organ music at other times. Refreshments will be available in the Duchess Anne Hall in the square. Last year the festival raised £1000 for each of its chosen charities, so it’s hoped this year can realise even more.
