Great Wall? — done it! Now for the Himalayas
After taking a couple of years to let his feet recover, Andrew (50) is at it again, this time on the roof of the world.
Trek
He’s looking for volunteers to join him on a trek through Nepal from Lukla to the Tengboche Monastery, the route that leads to Everest base camp.
He said, “The last walk in China was a huge success. It was an experience that those on it
will never forget — the sights we saw, the hard work and the friends made.
“I expect this one to be the same. And I’d like to raise a similar amount for CHAS — after all, it’s all about the children who need our help.”
Andrew will be taking to the hills from April 16 to 26 next year.
To take part, volunteers must pay £200 towards the cost and raise a minimum of £2200 in sponsorship.
Added Andrew, “It may seem like a lot of money, but last time
people did all sorts to raise it.
“Pub quizzes, raffles, asking friends and family — if you think of everything that’s been tried before, they did loads of it.”
The trek is not for the faint-hearted. It’s six days of walking six hours a day.
Scenery
And walking at heights of around 3800 metres there’s the possibility of altitude sickness, though there will be a doctor and a guide on hand and a
day of acclimatisation before setting off.
However the scenery is sure to be worth it and at the end there’s a day to explore the city of Kathmandu.
