Let’s hear it for the birthday girls
The
girls raised £400 after making a very important decision.
They
planned to celebrate with a disco. But, as they are in different
classes, Karen in 7a and Gillian in 7b at Clober Primary School,
the girls had lots of people to invite.
They
realised that if they invited everyone, the guest list would reach
55.
Gillian says, “We couldn’t invite everyone to come and expect
them all to buy presents.”
Too much
Karen
adds, “That would have been too much!”
So
the girls had a heart-to-heart chat and decided to ask everyone to
donate money to CHAS instead.
“We
had to do something for charity,” explains Gillian.
Karen
agrees, “We wanted to give money to CHAS because it was a
children’s charity. We’d heard all about Rachel House and
thought we’d do our bit to help towards Robin House.”
Gillian’s
mum, Christine, says, “Karen’s grandparents live near Balloch
and were involved in the initial discussions to bring a hospice to
Loch Lomond.
“Her
grandad is very interested in the project.
“And
Gillian’s gran raised money with the WRI for Rachel House when
it was built.
“We
read The Sunday Post and see what people are doing to help CHAS,
so the girls are very aware.
Flabbergasted
“This
was something they wanted to do themselves and we’re proud of
them. As parents we were flabbergasted that children this age
could raise so much.
“Kids seem to get such a bad press nowadays, but I think this shows how good they really can be.”
Roslyn Neely from CHAS says, “This is such an amazing, selfless and kind gesture.
“It’s lovely to see children helping children.”
Karen says, on behalf of her and Gillian, “We just want to thank all our friends for coming to our party and helping us raise so much money for the new hospice.”
Well done girls.
