BOWLERS FROM Hawkshead Bowling Club, near Paisley, turned bookies for a day for our CHAS appeal. The 365 members held a race night last month and raised
£700. Treasurer Dougie Downes said, “We have a very strong social committee and one of our members heard about the appeal, so we decided to raise some money. We used to hold race nights years ago and decided to start them up again and give the proceeds to the new hospice. “At the event we had a pack of six sealed videos showing the races. People had to bet on the winning horse and some members sponsored horses as well, so if the horse came in there was a prize like a bottle of whisky.” Dougie added, “People were very generous, many gave back their winnings to put into the appeal. We are delighted to be able to help such a good cause.”
