Enjoy some festive cheer . . . in a castle

By Kathryn Mainds
IT’S LESS than three weeks until Christmas and there’s nothing like a carol concert to fill you with festive cheer. And wouldn’t it be even better if it was in a castle?
Lavinia Gordon came up with the idea of a carol concert in beautiful Blair Castle.
Aided by Peter Jarvis, administrator at the castle, and Canon Roger Devonshire of the Episcopal Church, Lavinia hopes the idea will be successful to the tune of around £2000 for our campaign.
Choirs
Next Sunday, the combined choirs of St Adamnan’s Episcopal Church, Kilmaveonaig, St John’s Epsicopal Church, Perth, and the Presbyterian church of Blair Atholl and Struan linked with Tenandry Church of Scotland will provide the singing.
They’ll also be helped by children from Blair Atholl and Struan primary schools.

Victoria and Fiona Stephen put in a spot of practice for the concert along with fellow pupils from Blair Atholl Primary School, Lavinia, second from left at the back, and various church members.

Lavinia, who lives near the castle, explains, “Peter had actually suggested it last year, but we thought there were already a lot of carol concerts in the area. “However, this year we thought that having a concert in Blair Castle would be something a little different.”
Now only open on Tuesdays and Saturday mornings throughout the winter season, Blair Castle is throwing open its doors specially on Sunday, welcoming visitors to the magnificent ballroom.
The concert starts at 6 pm, with doors opening at 5.30 pm and there will be mince pies and mulled wine on offer afterwards.
Tickets are £10, available from Blair Castle, tel. 01796 481207 or e-mail bookings@blaircastle.co.uk
They are also available from Music In Blair Atholl on 01796 481216, or e-mail strathgarry@strathgarry.com
