YOU COULD
have bowled us over when we received £527 for The Sunday Post CHAS Appeal from the ladies of Carluke Bowling Club.
Each year on the first Sunday in September the club’s ladies section organises a charity event when neighbouring clubs are invited to join in a day of fun and friendly competition.
Ladies President, Margaret Prentice, has been a member of the club for more than 30 years and the Charity Day has been running throughout that time.
Margaret said, “We’ve been organising the Charity Day for longer than I’ve been a member, it’s very much a part of our history.
“Each year we give the money we raise to the Beatson Oncology Centre, St Andrews Hospice in Airdrie and a third charity that changes every year.”
On September 7, £2210 was raised and divided among the three charities.
Margaret explained, “This year we decided to support CHAS. It’s a cause that touched all our hearts.”
The money came rolling in. As well as the £4 entrance fee there were tombolas, raffles and prize bingo.
Margaret said, “We really appreciate all the help and support we are shown every year. All the prizes for the events were donated and everyone gets right behind us to make the day a success.”
With two games of bowls the day also provided a chance to compete against other teams and indulge in a bit of friendly opposition —but all in a very good cause.
Raploch Bowling Club, Larkhall, won the competition, but everyone who helped raise money was a winner.
