Help us to help them

Merci beaucoup,
Vale of Leven

STAFF AND pupils at Vale of Leven Academy in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, managed to raise a magnifique £1200 after a tres bon effort for CHAS.
Eight first-year pupils at the school took part in a sponsored Language Challenge Day organised by Modern Languages teacher Susan Belkacemi.
Each pupil volunteered to learn 10 words in an unfamiliar language. Friends and family sponsored every word and the youngsters had to recite the words and translate them.

The pupils each had a different language, including French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Arabic. Over the course of two weeks, Mrs Belkacemi took them for one lesson a week.
This year’s effort brings their total raised for CHAS to more than £4000.
Susan said, “It wasn’t too difficult as we’d done a similar thing last year.
“We wanted to pick first-years and it’s a huge effort on the part of the children.”
Pupil Sean McAdam reckoned, “It’s very important to us because there are kids our age who need help. We’d like them to live life to the fullest.”
Vale of Leven Academy also has another good reason to be raising money for CHAS.
“We happen to be the closest school to Robin House, so there’s a lot of support for CHAS in the community. The amount of money we have raised shows the new hospice is very important to the surrounding area,” added Susan.
