50,000 thank-yous to pay-packet donors
300 companies
Contributors hardly notice the few pounds deducted from their wages each month, but all the small donations add up.
More than 300 companies are involved in the scheme, which raised more than £1.35 million for 860 charities last year.
Bryan Taylor, Chief Executive of Cancer Care Foundation, visited Rachel House to hand over the £50,000 cheque.
He said, “We’re pleased we can continue to help CHAS and the new hospice, Robin House.
“It was only four years ago that we presented CHAS with our first cheque for £500, now we can give them 100 times that amount.”
The Cancer Care Foundation was established five years ago to help children’s hospices across the UK.
Its main source of income is payroll-giving, which has seen it go from strength to strength in just a short time.
“When I started the Foundation we had just £600 in the bank,” explained Bryan. “Now we raise more than £1 million a year for charity.
“Fund-raising for hospices has always been limited because they are locally based.
“I wanted to find a way of raising a lot of money nationally, which we could channel into children’s hospices around the country.”
The Foundation is set to present another cheque to CHAS later this year, and is hoping to sponsor a room at Robin House when it opens.
Norma Adam, CHAS fund-raising manager, was over the moon with the Foundation’s generous donation.
“I’m delighted the Cancer Care Foundation continue to support us. Their donation will go a long way to help the families that rely on CHAS,” she said.
