They walked the
rebel’s way

By Gary Moug

THE ROB Roy Way is a stunning 79-mile walk from Pitlochry to Drymen, which goes through many of the places associated with Rob Roy MacGregor, the hero, rebel and outlaw who lived from 1671 to 1734.
Those who tackle the week-long trek encounter some of the country’s finest lochs and glens, using historic footpaths, a cycle route, forest tracks and some minor roads.

John Henderson, Jean Weddell, Alison Simpson,
Sheila Mather, Margaret Moncur, Ricki Prentice,
Helen Walker, Hugh Stewart and Norma Coghill.

The route was designed by Walking Support — a company involved in promoting and developing long-distance walking routes in Scotland.
John Henderson, who set up the company two years ago, became familiar with The Sunday Post CHAS Appeal last year after chatting to a CHAS fund-raiser. And in April, John and nine other walkers decided to hold a sponsored walk along the Rob Roy Way — raising £2587 for our campaign.
John said, “One of the supporters of the Rob Roy Way is whisky manufacturer Morrison Bowmore, who do a lot of work for CHAS. We decided last year to stage a sponsored walk for the charity and met with one of the CHAS fund-raisers to tell them about our plans.
“She explained CHAS are in the process of raising funds for the new hospice they’re building at Loch Lomond, which, by coincidence, is fairly close to the end of the Rob Roy Way. That’s when I discovered The Sunday Post were running a campaign.”
“It took us six days to complete,” John added. “We planned our route so we would finish in Drymen, not far from the the new hospice.
“Some of us went to visit the site and it was a great moment.
“Clearly, one children’s hospice is not adequate for the whole of Scotland and we’re delighted to be able to help contribute towards the cost of the new one at Balloch.”
