More than 100 friends and family attended the party at Motherwell Miners’ Club, but even those who couldn’t be there sent donations.
Anne said, “I want to say a great big thank you to everyone. It was such a memorable night.
“My son bought me a can of cola when I arrived and I think that’s the only thing I drank all evening. I didn’t have a chance to sit down once.”
One family member who couldn’t attend sent a special message that touched their hearts.
Their 22-year-old grandson, Russell, is a Royal Marine. He missed the party because he was stationed on
HMS Ocean in the Gulf at the time.
Anne said, “He sent a
lovely letter saying sorry he couldn’t be there, but it was good just to know he was safe and well.”
But the best thing for Anne is that they have done so much to help our hospice appeal. “I just wanted to help CHAS after reading so much about it in The Sunday Post,” she said.
No presents please
EAST KILBRIDE couple Dennis and Margaret McNeill also celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently, and like Bob and Anne, they too took the unusual step of telling friends and family they didn’t want any presents.
Not, we hasten to add, because they were party-poopers — far from it! Instead, they asked their loved ones to each make a donation to either The Sunday Post CHAS Appeal or their local Kilbryde Hospice.
The result was a cheque for
£360 winging its way into the campaign coffers, with a similar amount going to Kilbryde.
Dennis said, “We think The Sunday Post Appeal is such a worthwhile cause and we wanted to do something to help. We hope it won’t be long until you reach your goal.”
