Rita and Betty
turned on the style
Betty explained, “We’ve enjoyed reading about all the crazy things people have been doing to raise money for the new hospice at Loch Lomond. It’s a brilliant campaign and Rita and I are always talking about it.
“We wanted to do something to help. We held a bingo night last October, which raised just under £1000, but we wanted to do something on an even bigger scale.”
That they most certainly did. The women organised a dance at the Grangemouth Dockers’ Club last month. More than 200 tickets were sold at £6 each and a fabulous £1500 was raised in addition to the earlier cash — bringing the total raised to a magnificent
£2457.
Betty added, “It was a marvellous night. We had a pipe band and buffet and it went better than we could ever have hoped for. It was like a throwback to the old ballroom dancing days. Some of the men wore kilts and all the women were dressed up.
“The money was raised through ticket sales, donations, raffles and bingo. I was amazed by the response. I was expecting about 50 or 60 people to turn up, but in the weeks leading up to the event we were inundated with phone calls.
“There’s something about ill children that brings out the best in people. Everyone was very generous when we told them why we were raising money.” |
