Help us to help them

Agnes didn’t know whether to laugh or cry

By Craig Robertson

AGNES MALONE couldn’t quite make up her mind whether to laugh or cry on Wednesday when work began on Robin House, so she settled for doing both.
“I’m so choked with emotion I can’t really describe how I feel,” she told me. “It’s wonderful seeing so many people who have done so much to make this possible.
“At one point it looked like we might have to find another site and that would have been disastrous. Not only is this site perfect for our needs, but a year’s delay would have been critical for some of our children.

Agnes shares a joke with Sharleen
as the diggers move in.

“It’s so wonderful to see the plans and dreams we had on paper become reality. Today makes all the hard work worthwhile. Truly, there is nothing in the world more worthwhile.
“I am absolutely thrilled to see work begin and want to say a great big thank you to the people of Scotland, and particularly Sunday Post readers, for making it happen.
“But there’s still a lot of work to be done and we musn’t be complacent.
“We have now raised £7.3 million, enough to ensure the new hospice will be built, but we need to raise nearly another £3 million to cover running costs.
“We will keep working to achieve that and we are sure Sunday Post readers will continue to support us.”
