Help us to help them

We should sing
THEIR praises

By Paul Hastie

SPRINGBURN PARISH CHURCH praise group has been raising the rafters to collect cash for our appeal. But it’s we who should be singing their praises, after they handed over £1470 to CHAS.
The Glasgow group held a praise night at the church last month and found nearly 400 joyful parishioners eager to spare a few pounds to listen to their uplifting songs.

Debbie Pratt hands the praise group’s cheque to CHAS representative Debbie Traynor.

Group member Jim Macleod was delighted with the result. He said, “We had a great response, the place was packed. We took a lot of money in on the door, but even people who couldn’t come along sent donations.
“The evening followed a theme of life to death, with songs, readings and poetry.
“It was upbeat and joyous at times, but then also quiet and reflective.
“It went down very well with everyone — people keep asking when the next one will be happening.”
It shouldn’t be too long. The group has been together for eight years and their high spirits and loud voices have never gone to waste.
Every year they hold a praise night to raise money for charity, and this time our Hospice Appeal was the lucky recipient.
Jim added, “We all knew about the first hospice, Rachel House, and think it’s great there’s going to be another at Loch Lomond.
“It was really too good an opportunity for us to miss.”
