Draw made David and Michelle doubly smart

By Paul Hastie

OUR CHAS campaign received a £2500 boost last week — and left David and Michelle Masters twice as smart as before.
The Glasgow couple were the lucky winners of a brand new Smart car, raffled for £1 a ticket by the city’s Buchanan Galleries shopping centre.

It won’t take David and Michelle long to get used to the striking little city car — because they bought one of their own only months earlier.
But the car won’t go to waste, David explained that their prize couldn’t have come along at a better time.
“We’re expecting a baby in six months, so we thought we’d have to get rid of the Smart car, because its only a two-seater,” he said.
“But now we’ll be able to get a bigger car, and keep the Smart for company business.”
David and Michelle run Pyrus Malus, a software development company, and the Smart car will be ideal to help their publicity.
“It’s a very distinctive-looking car, and heads always turn when we drive it in town, so we’re going to put our company logo on it as that’s sure to get us noticed,” said Michelle.
The £16,000 car was donated by Smart of Glasgow to mark the opening of their new showroom. The special roofless model is one of only 2000 made worldwide.
Sales Team Leader, Caryn Nicolson, was only too happy that it would go to help our appeal.
“We feel it is important to support charities and community development. We’ve been able to learn about CHAS and come to understand their needs,” she said.
“It’s a great prize too — the car is sporty, stylish and eco-friendly.
“But I had no idea David and Michelle already owned one. We didn’t pick the winner — Buchanan Galleries did it completely at random.
Buchanan Galleries joined The Sunday Post campaign by adopting CHAS as their nominated charity for 2003.
The £2500 made from the prize draw is just the latest of their fundraising efforts, alongside their ongoing Buy-A-Brick campaign.
Galleries manager, Hamish Millar, said, “It’s a charity that tugs at the heartstrings.
“We’re pleased that so much money was raised, and that we can continue to help the campaign.”
