THE LATEST Philip Green Memorial Trust boxing night in aid of the new hospice has raised an amazing
£55,000.
The trust is committed to building a hydrotherapy unit at Robin House costing £250,000. After two highly-successful boxing nights in Glasgow the vast majority of that cash is now in the bank.
And as chairman Cyril Paskin explains, it won’t be long before the rest of the money is also there.
“We’re a London-based trust providing money to charities who help children. In the past year we’ve established ourselves in Scotland and so far, thanks to the two nights at the Glasgow Hilton along with generous donations from the Station Charity
Action Group at RAF
Leuchars, we now have £205,000.
Jeremy Beadle
“The other £45,000 will come from a boxing night in London later this month and a quiz night with Jeremy Beadle next spring. And of course we’ll be holding our third boxing night in Glasgow next year.
“Apart from putting money towards Robin House, we’ve also helped four other children’s organisations in Scotland in the past year.
“We gave £10,000 to the Glen Family Centre in
Thornliebank, Glasgow. They had a hydrotherapy unit, but it had fallen into disrepair. Thanks to our involvement, it has been fixed.”
Star turn at the most recent boxing night was undoubtedly comedian Andy Cameron, who entertained the 400 diners. Cyril paid great tribute to him.
“Living in London I’d never heard of Andy until recently. But I have to say his performance on the night was magnificent and helped increase the amount we raised.
“His after-dinner speech was excellent and he had us all in stitches. But he really hit the mark as an auctioneer. His skills were the major factor in us raising £30,000 from that part of the evening alone.”
