Help us to help them

Stars shine bright in Paisley

WHEN ANN DOONER’S colleagues discussed raising money for CHAS, it was decided walking boots would be donned . . . and they’d get dressed up.
“In the summer, 20 staff members from eight Scottish Microcom Centres, a company helping the unemployed back into work, walked around the island of Great Cumbrae,” said Ann, who is Microcom’s area manager in Paisley. “Then we sold raffle tickets, had a sponsored slim and by Halloween we’d raised £2500.

The Microcom cheque presentation was a star-studded affair. From left, Liz Dutch, Kevin Tough, CHAS representative Michael Connick, Christine Horne, Mairi Goodwin and Ann Dooner.

“We decided to donate £1250 to CHAS and the other half has been donated to Clippens School in Linwood, which helps children with special needs.”
Because it was Halloween, CHAS volunteer Michael Connick was presented with the £1250 in the presence of Mr Blobby and Rab C. Nesbitt.
Handing over the cheque to Michael was Microcom client Mairi Goodwin, from Barrhead, and doing so was a poignant moment for her. “I lost my 12-year-old son Paul to cystic fibrosis in Rachel House and had a lot of support from them,” said Mairi. “Anything I can do to help CHAS gives me great comfort!”
