Help us to help them

The Sunday Post
may have a rival . . .

By Bill Hicks

WHEN THE Primary Six children of Calderwood Primary School in Rutherglen decided to raise cash for our appeal, they took up pen and paper to do so.
With seven of the class of 26 taking on the role of editors and the others becoming reporters, the pupils produced their first-ever school newspaper.
Overseen by their teacher, Margaret MacPhie, the class produced 150 copies of their paper, which sold out so quickly an extra 20 had to be printed.
It carried reports on everything from the P1 sports day to the teachers’ reaction to the new school windows.
And once the stories had been written, those with computing skills put the paper together.
“The paper had an achievements’ page, poetry and plenty of interviews to keep readers interested and was a great success,” says Margaret.
And so say all at the Sunday Post CHAS Appeal, which benefited to the tune of £100, thanks to the P6 hacks.
