Help us to help them

Bobby and Sarah are
160 years young

SOME PEOPLE believe life begins at 40, but a twin brother and sister have reached their peak at 80 — by raising a ripe old sum for our appeal.
Bobby Thomson and Sarah Duffy from Edinburgh were piped into Edinburgh Masonic Hall to celebrate their birthday recently. They raised £2025 by asking guests to donate money to our CHAS fund rather than give them presents.

With a raffle for two signed footballs, one each from Hibs and Hearts, there was certainly no rivalry as the 250 guests pulled together to help the special senior siblings celebrate in style.
Kate Wishart, Bob’s daughter, explained, “I think my dad and auntie are so delighted to have led such long and full lives that they decided it was time to give something back.
“The Children’s Hospice Appeal seemed very fitting as they are both grandparents and don’t take it for granted that they were able to watch a healthy family grow up.
“After reading about the plight of the children and their parents in Rachel House, I think they were inspired by their courage and wanted to mark their special occasion by helping the effort to build Robin House.”
Entertainment on the night came from a host of personal friends who sang, as well as the live music of local band First Edition and a ventriloquist to keep the kids entertained.
A proud Bobby said, “I worked for Scotmid before retiring and I was the toy controller, so I’ve always had a close connection with children and I feel privileged to be able give something back.
“My sister and I are very proud to be part of The Sunday Post Hospice Challenge. It’s the best present for us knowing we’ve helped out a poignant cause that’s close to everyone’s hearts.
“I’d just like to thank all our friends and family who made it all possible.”
