Help us to help them

Raising £500 was
neigh bother

KELLY DOOGAN and Jenny Reid, from Wellbank, near Dundee, had neigh trouble raising a tremendous wad of cash for CHAS, writes Kathryn Mainds.
There was no horsing around as the teenagers, with the help of their four-legged friends, Ernie and Peggy Sue, jumped their way to £541.31.
Inspired by their pal Dionne McIntosh, who attends Rachel House, Kelly (17) and Jenny (14) decided they wanted to help Dionne and others like her.

Diane Wallace accepts the cheques for
CHAS from Jenny Reid and Kelly Doogan.

So the pair, who eat, sleep and breathe horses, decided to do a sponsored jump at the Scottish Coloured Horse Show.
Kelly and her piebald (black and white horse), Ernie, and Jenny and her skewbald (brown and white), Peggy Sue, compete in the event each year but this was the first time they’d done it for charity.
Feeling a little nervous, the girls had to wait until the end of the event, held at Wellbank Farm last month, for the two jumping classes, each consisting of six jumps. But they cleared the 12 jumps at a canter.
Kelly smiled, “There was a big crowd. They were all cheering us on and we got over all the jumps.”
The crowd were not only generous with their support, but with their money, too, as the girls added many more sponsors to their list.
Despite having done many shows Jenny admitted, “I was a bit nervous but I’m glad we managed to raise the money and that it’s going towards such a good cause.”
The plucky youngsters even managed to encourage the Scottish Coloured Horse Club to help the Sunday Post campaign.
Kelly explains, “The money raised from the show always goes to charity. You’re asked on the entry form to suggest one, so we said CHAS and the Scottish Coloured Horse Club has donated £150.”
