Brownie challenge
turned out to
be a real eye-opener

WHEN Edinburgh Brownie leaders Catherine Homan and Eileen McCormack asked their pack to come up with fund-raising ideas for our Hospice Appeal, one suggestion had them quivering with fear.
The eye-opening challenge put forward by the cheeky youngsters of the combined 111th and 121st A Gracemount Brownies was a sponsored stay-awake.
“It was the children’s idea, and I must admit it did fill us with trepidation,” admits Catherine, aka Brown Owl.
“However, as soon as the idea was raised, the children were desperate to carry it off.
“They like to do novel things to raise money and, thankfully, we all had great fun.
“I think I enjoyed staying up, singing and playing games as much as the children!”

Despite their tender years, almost all the 17 fun-loving girls, aged between seven and 10, managed to stay the course, raising a fantastic £444 for our appeal. To celebrate, they were treated to a puppet show at their Gracemount meeting place.
“We are very proud of our Brownies,” Catherine said. “Sadly, we can’t find a Guider to take charge of one of the units, so it must close in the New Year. But this is a nice way for them to go out.” |
