Bearsden’s best ever
BEARSDEN ACADEMY raised £750 with their Christmas concert, writes Murray
Scougall.
The show proved to be the most successful the school has ever staged — and headmaster Mike Doig put that down to where the money was going. He said, “This is the largest amount we have ever raised from a school show.
We were expecting to make between £500 and £600.

“I think the reason the total is so great is because the audience knew in advance where the money was going and it was obviously a cause they felt strongly about.”
The school’s music department organises several concerts a year, but the Christmas show is always the most popular. This one was no different, as a sell-out crowd
pred more than £400 in ticket sales. Equally impressive, though, was the raffle, where prizes of sweets, chocolates and wine raked in more than £300.

Something good out of something bad

SARAH AND Brian Russell, from Drumchapel, have raised
£1114 for The Sunday Post Hospice Appeal at an extra-special dance night in memory of their son Craig, writes Euan
Duguid.
He died three years ago in Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital when he was 13, after a road accident, and his parents vowed to celebrate his life by helping other children through raising money for CHAS.
More than 150 revellers danced the night away as a local DJ pumped out a variety of disco hits in the John Oliver Function Suite in
Drumchapel.
Brian was overjoyed at the fantastic atmosphere and community spirit on the night. He said, “Local businesses, from Stefanos chip shop to Mecca Bingo, who donated the prizes for our raffle, have been a fantastic support. We would especially like to thank everyone who turned up and made the dance such a success.
“Losing Craig has made us completely open to others’ suffering. We feel something good has come out of something bad.”
