Are they doing their bit in
Forfar? Just take it as read!

PUPILS AT Forfar Academy are turning into bookworms in a bid to raise money for a second children’s hospice.
Inspired by the launch of our schools hospice challenge and a special visit to Rachel House, the English department of the school has organised a readathon for 1100 pupils to raise at least £1 each for the appeal.

A
week will be set aside in the curriculum for each pupil to read up to three books. Elma Reid, assistant principal teacher of English explains, “The school has supported a variety of charitable causes in the past. But when we saw the hospice challenge in The Sunday Post, it was something our pupils were keen to become involved with.
“The charities committee, which is made up of pupils, decided CHAS was a worthwhile appeal to support, so the English department took this on board and we decided a readathon would be the best way. We hope each of the 1100 pupils will donate a minimum of £1.
“Pupils from 1st to 6th year are taking part. They are all very enthusiastic about it, especially since they know what Rachel House is all about following a visit to the hospice by myself, another colleague and two pupils.
“You cannot visit Rachel House and simply walk away. It’s something which has a profound effect on you.
“We are keen to play our part, and hope we can help make a difference.’’
