Anne’s art of giving

By Debbie Manson

ANOTHER GENEROUS artist has dedicated her entire collection to our hospice campaign. As we told you last week, Anne Bradley, from Selkirk, has been painting awe-inspiring seascapes and rolling hills landscapes since an injury forced her to give up nursing four years ago.

Anne (right) and Alma get ready for the show.

Her unexpected career as a painter began when she bought some art magazines. She said, “I never studied art. I just picked up tips from the magazines — trial and error really.”
She came up with the idea of using her paintings to raise money for the new hospice after reading about our campaign. Anne said, “I buy The Sunday Post every week and I realised what a wonderful idea the hospice is.
“I decided I had to do something to help and it struck me that selling my paintings would raise some money for the campaign. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friend Alma Henderson, who owns the local gallery.”
Alma, a former head art teacher at Madras College in St Andrews has been running Jeansburn Gallery in Selkirk for four years. She has kindly offered her premises for free, the last works to be exhibited there before she closes the gallery.
Alma said, “This is Anne’s special show. She’s really such a remarkable lady. 50 paintings with prices ranging from £20 to over £100 will be on sale. We’ll charge a £1 entry fee and every penny we make will go to CHAS. We hope to raise around £3000.”
The exhibition opened yesterday and is on until Sunday, November 10. (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2-5 pm) Contact Alma on 01750 52345.
