Ploughmen dug deep
in Forfar
By Farrah Baskerville
A GROUP of ploughmen dug deep for the Sunday Post Hospice Challenge.
Andrew Mitchell, a former World and European Ploughing Champion, his wife Joyce and Geordie
Tawse, all from Forfar, organised a charity ploughing match.
Fifty ploughmen from
Angus, Perthshire, Stonehaven, Linlithgow and Buchylvie gave up their Sunday to work at South Leckaway Farm, under the watchful eye of judges, local businesses who sponsored the event and spectators who went along to help raise funds for CHAS.

A whopping £906 was raised on the day, with the ploughmen paying £4 to enter the match, 100 spectators paying £1.50 to watch, £330 raised through the sale of raffle tickets, and local businesses donating everything from restaurant vouchers to bottles of whisky.
A delighted Joyce said, “When we started off, we thought we’d maybe manage to raise up to £100, so we’re over the moon to have got £906.
“We all have families of our own and you never know when or if a loved one may need the support, hope, respite, care and compassion that Rachel House offers.
“That’s why it’s so important people pull together to do their bit for such a worthwhile cause.” |
