Golden
cheque

WHEN PENSIONERS David and Elizabeth Herd, from St Andrews, were approaching their Golden Wedding anniversary, the kind-hearted couple decided to use the occasion to raise funds for the new
hospice.
So they asked guests attending the celebration party at their local bowling club if they’d make a donation towards the appeal instead of giving presents. The generous lot raised a whopping £700.
As Elizabeth (72) explains, “We’re in the lucky position of having everything we need, and when we saw the appeal in The Sunday Post it touched our hearts.
“We’ve been reading the stories showing the struggle of those poor children every week and decided we wanted to become involved.”
David (73) added, “It has given us both a great deal of satisfaction knowing that the money will be used for such a worthwhile cause.’’
