Help us to help them

Even Britney Spears helped — almost!

By Euan Duguid

IT WAS a grand night for the hospice appeal at the Highlander Lounge in Overton Street Alexandria — a grand plus 250 quid, to be precise.
Bar manager Jean McKay and regular Jackie Ryden organised a cabaret night, which drew such a big crowd staff reckoned it was just as busy and atmospheric as any bustling Christmas Eve.
A wide variety of talented local music and comedy acts managed to dazzle their way to raising a fantastic £1250 to help build a new children’s hospice.

From the hilarious talents of comedian Willie Kelly, to local Britney Spears impersonator Natalie James, the 12 fantastic acts ensured the show was a storming success.
Jean said, “The acts who turned up were all fantastic and there were a couple of cracking groups, including local folk band Hell for Leather, that really got the crowd going.
“The gallon bottles on the bar have been filling with coins over the months and we had ‘chuck it in the bucket’ and a raffle on the night to raise the cash.
“The best thing was that all the entertainers came along voluntarily to help out. This just shows the willingness of the community to support such a good cause.
“We are proud to be part of the appeal and would like to thank everyone who helped and came along to such a memorable night — if the money raised through the fun we had can help the kids, then that’s great.”
