Banker happy to make cutbacks

ROYAL BANK of Scotland employee Bruce Halkett wanted to do something which would generate a lot of interest for our appeal.
So he decided to cash in his moustache and long curly locks to raise a whopping £2300 for the new hospice by having a sponsored visit to the barber’s. £1800 was raised through donations from kind-hearted staff, and the bank rewarded him with an additional £500.

£2300

Bruce, who works in Risk and Lending Systems based at the Gyle, Edinburgh, said, “When you give up your hair for charity, it’s nice to know the Royal Bank are willing to recognise your efforts.”

THE Bridie Club, of William Stephens The Baker, in Dunfermline, came up with the dough and allocated £1000 from their social fund, which donates to two charities every year. Around 130 kind-hearted staff gave cash from their pay packet every week to make up the charity fund kitty, and as they have already given £800 to CHAS in the past year, it was a unanimous decision to make The Sunday Post Hospice Appeal one of their chosen charities again this year.
THE Blairgowrie branches of the Dundee and Dundee United Supporters Clubs tried to emulate their heroes by taking to a football pitch in aid of our campaign. In a thrilling encounter at Davie Park in Blair, those of a dark blue persuasion won 5-3, despite former United star Hamish McAlpine doing a turn in goal for the Tangerines. The clubs donated £50 each and, along with the gate money, raised £181.50.
GENEROUS workers at clothing firm DAKS Simpson, of Larkhall, got together and chipped in with a very useful £200.
RAINBOWS, Brownies and Guides from Methven and Almondbank sent a cheque for £34, the weekly “subs” collected at their St Andrew’s Night celebrations.
THE big-hearted first Newarthill Brownies also sent in a week’s worth of their “subs” and added £17 to the total.
LOCH Lomond Craft Association’s exhibition at Corrie’s restaurant in Balloch raised an artistic £350 for the appeal.
KIND-HEARTED Mr and Mrs Melville, of Perth, sent a cheque for £34.
