Tongues tied in knots

VALE OF LEVEN ACADEMY raised a superb £1500 as first-year pupils tied their tongues in knots for a sponsored language challenge, attempting to speak as many foreign languages as possible at the same time.
Teachers needed earplugs as the kids gathered in the assembly hall, having learned 10 words from several languages such as Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic and Japanese. A noisy, but cultured, event!
The school also raised cash via a Guess The Teddy’s Birthday competition and third and fourth year pupils are also planning a bring-and-buy sale.

 Kirsty Byrne and Natalie Devine.

£1500

Teacher Susan Belkacemi, of the Modern Languages Department, and one of the main organisers of the charity events, said, “The school as a whole is very committed to The Sunday Post CHAS Appeal and we are all delighted with our pupils’ efforts.
“I think an added incentive for them was that the new hospice is to be located within their community.”
