Which interview do you want to do over again to get right? Geri Halliwell. She had her dog with her which broke wind, she was dismissive throughout, and brought in a girl she’d just met outside. Least favourite interviewee? Harmonica player Larry Adler. He was combative and aggressive. I felt like saying: “Why did you bother?” Secret passion? I have a licence to drive Routemaster double-decker buses. My friends and I own six and hire them out for weddings and funerals. I don’t dress up in a uniform. What do you miss about Scotland? Proper hills, not the pimples of southern England. The Cairngorms are what I call proper hills. When I lived in Glasgow I didn’t fully appreciate my view of The Campsies. Were you a good accountant? No. My maths is good but I still can’t read a balance sheet properly. I left after two years to wash cars. Are you a good drummer? I’m OK, but I love it. I play in a band in my village and we do everything from jazz to Robbie Williams. Your pet hate? I can’t stand eggs unless they’re hidden in something. Hard boiled egg especially. If a chef puts an egg on top of something, I send it back. Album you couldn’t live without? Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. I’ve loved it from the day I bought it. Most important life changing event? Joining the BBC. I was working for a car hire firm when the head of the hospital radio station I helped at suggested I send in a tape. You have 24 hours left to live. How do you spend the time? I would choose to be a drummer in a large orchestra with the best players, playing all types of music on a massive scale, and being cheered to the rafters.
